Focus and Scope

Free Associations is a journal for the exploration of psychoanalysis and its relation to politics, culture and the media, broadly defined. It aims to embrace all psychoanalytic approaches ranging from the clinical to theoretical and scholarly applications. We welcome contributions from a range of academic disciplines including, cultural studies, film studies, media studies, literature, drama, art, history, studies of identity, critical theory, anthropology, feminism, philosophy, psychosocial studies and social sciences as well as all subjects that include a psychoanalytic (or psychodynamic) dimension. All submissions - whether original articles, reviews of books, cultural events/phenomena or media, letters to the editor, conference reports etc - should address matters related to psychoanalysis and its application in the clinical, media and/or cultural spheres.

Peer Review Process

Articles submitted to the journal are subject to several layers of scrutiny during the review process. First, articles are reviewed by the Editors, who will assess the relevance of the work for the concerns and remit of the journal. Once this initial approval has been made, all articles are sent out for blind peer-review. Reviewers are drawn from academic and psychoanalytic/psychotherapeutic constituencies. At times, reviews will be undertaken by members of the Editorial Board and/or the International Advisory Board. Reviewers are asked to review articles within a period of 6-8 weeks and, if needed, comments are then prepared for Authors on the basis of recommendations received.

Publication Frequency

Free Associations publishes three numbers per annum.
