Abstract

This is an illustrated transcript of the talk given by Grayson Perry at the conference Making Space: Psychoanalysis and Artistic Process (UCL, 25th February 2012). Perry shows examples of his art from his student days through to the highly crafted pots, sculptures and tapestries in his recent exhibition at the British Museum. These works frequently incorporate overt references to Perry’s personal experiences, including his traumatic childhood. He discusses the process of creating the works and explains how psychotherapy has been a major influence, providing inspiration and ‘new ways of looking at the world’.
