Abstract

In his essay, “Remembering, Repeating and Working-Through,” Freud claimed that if crucial events of the past were not recalled, “acting out (repetition) [would] replace remembering.”[i] Repetition thus stood in opposition to remembering. And so it promises to be with Trump and his followers. They have resisted reckoning with what they did on January 6 and during the weeks leading up to the insurrection; instead, they have virtually threatened to repeat their attack—and with more lethal weapons.
